Library routes

A small collection with a timetable. The stop is the address.

UpcomingAlong two existing bus lines
A stack of worn books on a wooden table.

Books that travel on routes people already use, instead of waiting for a new building.

No new building

A library that requires a journey nobody was already making will be admired and unused. The route is the method. We borrow a timetable that already works.

Requests, not donations of leftovers

Readers ask for the next book. The collection is built from those asks. Surplus books from elsewhere are welcome only when they match the list.

A paper membership

The list is a notebook. A name, a stop, a title. It can be lost, and it can also be read by the person it is about.

Goals

  1. 01Put a staffed book box on six stops for a full season.
  2. 02Let readers request the next title, and have it arrive the following week.
  3. 03Keep a paper list, so a person without a phone can still be a member.

Timeline

  1. 2025A trial crate. One crate rode a familiar route for a month. The books came back. The requests were more specific than we expected.
  2. 2026A librarian for the route. The upcoming fund pays a person to know the list, not only a driver to carry the box.

The collection does not wait for a new building. Boxes move with a bus timetable, and the fund pays for the books, the crates, and the librarian who knows which stop asked for what.

How to help

Library routes are still being prepared. A gift helps buy the first season of books and the wage of the person who tends the list. Write before you send money; the stops are not all confirmed.
